First Birthday Cake Smash Photos
BEHIND THE LENS
Cake Smash Photography – Sweet, Silly, and Unforgettable
Your baby is turning one, and that’s a big deal. A cake smash photo session is a fun, joyful way to celebrate this major milestone and preserve the playful spirit of your one-year-old in a way no phone photo ever could.
At my Everett studio, your 30-minute mini session includes:
- Sweet family portraits
- Milestone images of your baby
- A splashy tub moment in my vintage toy bathtub
- Same day viewing and ordering
- And, of course, the unforgettable cake smash photos
These sessions are short and sweet—designed for little ones who are full of personality but not quite ready for long shoots. If you're looking for baby milestone photography near Seattle or planning a 1st birthday photoshoot, this is the perfect way to mark the occasion.
Years from now, these photos will remind you:
- How small their frosting-covered hands were
- That joyful little scrunch-face they used to make
- How it felt to celebrate the first year
Let’s make a mess. Let’s make memories.

Sessions are 30 minutes. One-year-olds are full of personality but not built for long shoots, so the session is short and sweet, and we move at your baby's pace within that window. Everything is set up beforehand, so we can let your little one loose for their cake. Read more here.

Every cake smash session includes sweet family portraits, milestone images of your baby, the cake smash itself, and a splashy tub moment in my vintage toy bathtub. You'll view and order your images the same day, right in the studio. Read more here.

Yes, please bring your baby's cake. That way you can choose a flavor, size, and design that fits your theme and any dietary needs your little one has. A small smash cake works best. Reach out before your session if you'd like guidance on size or style. Read more here.

Absolutely. Family portraits are built into every cake smash session, so parents, siblings, and grandparents are all welcome. We photograph the family portion first, while your baby is fresh, then move on to the cake. Read more here.

Some babies dive right in, some poke at it suspiciously, and some want nothing to do with it. All of those reactions make wonderful photos, and none of them ruin the session. With 25+ years of experience, my expertise is in capturing the cute and candid moments of your sweet kid. Read more here.

Something simple that photographs well and that you don't mind getting frosting on. Soft neutrals, simple rompers, and coordinating colors all work. Bring a change of clothes and a towel for the ride home. Coordinate with me in advance if we are doing a custom theme that requires a special outfit. Read more here.

My studio has a full range of props, backdrops, and setups that I prepare before you arrive. If you have a theme or color palette in mind for your baby's first birthday, let me know when you book and I'll build the set around it, I'll need a month beforehand to get it perfect for you. Most families schedule their session close to their baby's first birthday, and I recommend booking a few weeks ahead so you get the date you want. If you're planning a birthday party, booking a couple of weeks before gives you time to use the images for decorations or thank-you cards. Read more here.

The same day as your session. Right after we wrap, we sit down together in the studio for your image viewing and ordering appointment, so you see your photos and choose your favorites before you leave. If you have an additional someone to take care of your kiddo while you look at photos, then we can speed through it really quickly, getting you exactly the photos you want of all the candid lovely moments of your baby.
