Lakewold Gardens is nestled in the heart of the South Sound region but 100% worth the drive. This English style gardens and antique home, made for the perfect background for a shoot I had been dreaming of for years! Several months back my friend and favorite model Astelle Christoff reached out and asked if I ever wanted to do a period styled shoot. I jumped at the opportunity. Together, with our fabulous makeup artist, Lacey Blair and Allen Schmekel as our Mr. Darcy we had a fantastic shoot.
A Historic-Modern Mashup
Since I am a wedding photographer by trade I approached this styled shoot like a modern-day engagement session. I wanted to poses and lighting to feel modern while the location and costumes felt antique. This gave me the freedom to edit the photos to play up the drama and not get stuck trying to recreate vintage styles.
The key for shooting in Lakewold Gardens was avoiding the large group of Canadian tourists! Elderly women were the main visitors and I will admit we caused quite a stir. At one point I overheard the ladies gossiping to each other saying, “this must be for a movie” and “oh it’s a romance! I saw them kissing!” Needless to say, I think they got more than their tour price for the trip.
Lakewold Gardens: Stunning Location
Lakewold Gardens is a perfect place for a wedding, family portrait, shoot, or a styled shoot like mine. It was great fun to visit this vintage era with such a great couple and talented team. As a PS. I need to mention the Lacy Blair’s skills. She did Astelle’s makeup and hair onsite and I was blown away by her speed and precision. The costumes came from Northwest Costume, which by the way, has an amazing selection. They were so kind to help us out right before Halloween too!
