In my office I have a sign above my desk that reads, “Believe there is Good in the world, Be the Good in the world.” This is my constant reminder to reach out, to be kind, to forgive, and the help. It has become a guiding principle in my life and the basis for my business’s charitable giving. IJ Photo’s mission statement reads “To create artistic and beautiful images that celebrate the love of couples and families; then share that love through charitable giving, thus expanding our reach and helping the world as a whole become a more loving place.”
This all started for me in 2011 when I nearly died and promised God that if he would let me live I would find a greater purpose than myself. You can read my story here. Fast forward to 2017 where America is deeply divided politically and both sides are busy arguing semantics. I am deeply depressed by the amount of hate I am seeing within social media and have been feeling lost as to how I can participate in a positive way. Then a lovely bride emailed me and expressed her need to do wedding planning but also her feeling of futility. She said, “I’ve been having a difficult time finding real meaning in all this wedding planning when the world feels like it’s falling apart.” I immediately thought, she can’t be the only one feeling this way, I feel very similar. She expressed that she loved my mission and after reading her email, I knew that I had to do something extraordinary. I was inspired to set a goal of donating $15,000 this year to the IRC- International Refugee Committee. This amazing organization focuses on helping people stay safe, become healthy, receive education, and restore economic well being. When lives and livelihoods are shattered by war and disaster this A+ rated charity is there.
But I need your help. $15,000 is a lot of money, but I firmly believe that this cause is worthy and meeting this goal possible. If you are planning a wedding in 2017-18 and need a wedding photographer I encourage you to book your wedding with me. If I am already booked for your wedding I encourage you to book an engagement session. If you aren’t getting married, please book a family portrait session. Don’t need a family portrait? I suggest buying a gift card and gifting it to a friend! Wedding and portrait photography is already something you want and need, now you have a way to make your investment work twice as hard.
While I am under know delusion that this will fix the refugee crisis, or our ailing political dialog, I firmly believe that love conquers hate, heals wounds, and defines us as people. Please help me find the good and expand it throughout all the world.
