Not too far down the road from my studio in Greenwood is Golden Gardens. This park is a favorite place for Ballard residences because of it’s actual sand beaches (a rarity in WA) and the variety of activities you can do here. From swimming, to biking, to hiking, all of the outdoor stuff we Washingtonians love is right there. A Golden Gardens engagement session can’t be beat. I met up with Tony, Amy, and Jordan (their son) for some family portraits and engagement photos on Tuesday evening and the results made this photographer beside myself with joy!
First of all I love the trees and sand combo. For other shoots I’ve created this same tent in the past, but Amy and Tony connection was the real treat. I loved how he made her laugh, and how being close to her brings a smile to his face. Their love for one another is infectious!
Over by the Bathhouse (a great place for a wedding by the way) we photographed the whole family. When I asked Jordan to make a face while Tony and Amy kissed he said, “OH NO WAY!” and walked out of the photo. I died laughing! We eventually coaxed this adorable eight year old back for some more photos.
Golden Gardens has some really lovely tall grasses. (Only a photographer actively wants to go to places with weeds.) Here we were able to get some more portraits of the whole family as well as this beautiful couple.
The best part of working at this location is how close everything is. Not having to walk long distances between shots really shortens the length of a session. We completed this session is just over an hour, which allowed us to get more shots in the lovely golden hour light of the long Summer evenings. The only draw back of this location is the crowds. Luckily Seattle residents are so polite I was able to work with this couple without interference. In all of the photos it looks like we had the place all to ourselves!
Thanks to Amy, Tony, and Jordan for a great session. I’m so excited for your wedding later this year!
