2013 Is Going to Be BIG!

2013 Is Going to Be BIG!

For a “creative type” I’m pretty left brained. I love setting goals, updating my calendar, making lists, and reorganizing.   For this reason January is one of my favorite months. (That and it’s my birthday month too!) The new year is a great time to look back over the previous year, and then look forward and find new opportunities and ways to improve. Last year I was inspired by a TED talk to make monthly goals that forced me to try something new every 30 days in addition to my regular new year’s resolutions. My monthly goals included a raw foods diet, 60 minutes of cardio every day, reading the scriptures daily for 30 minutes, meditating every morning, etc. Some of the goals worked out great and have become part of my regular routine (I now love going to the gym and I lost 25 lbs last year) and others I will never do again (going without chocolate was terrible!)

This year I’ve created personal goals and business goals. My business goals are as follows:

  • Donate $100,000 to charity.
  • Publish my events and class schedule in January.
  • Create portraits for my clients that go above and beyond their expectations.
  • Add value to each portrait order with brand new “extras” you can’t get anywhere else.

Obviously, I’m going to need some help to meet these goals. My success relies heavily on the generosity of my clients. Together we choose charitable organizations to donate a portion of each session’s proceeds to.  And together, we create beautiful portraits that increase in value year after year.  Below is my 2013 calendar. (Look at that, one goal completed already!) Additional details about these events and classes will be posted in the coming months. If you are interested in participating please contact me directly via email or phone, 425.232.5263.

Capturing Christmas Morning

Capturing Christmas Morning

In the past I have been guilty of setting up my entire studio lighting kit in my living room with the intent of capturing every moment of Christmas morning. It’s been comforting to know I can capture the magic as it happens with quality exposures and perfectly executed lighting. From the street my neighbors canContinue Reading

Florescent Lighting: A Cheap and Easy Way to Make Beautiful Portraits

Florescent Lighting: A Cheap and Easy Way to Make Beautiful Portraits

I have really been enjoying teaching my most recent portrait photography class. It’s so fun to hang out with other people who love portraiture as much as I do! Last night we photographed using old fashion florescent tubes as the main lighting source. This is a great way to repurpose something you probably already have in your garage. Best of all,Continue Reading

Finding Inspiration

“No one is immune to human contact; Art is not made in a vacuum.” -R. B. Kitaj. When I was a student at The Art Institute of Seattle my favorite professor, Raymond Gendreau, would paraphrase the above quote during each class.  Although I can only speculate on his reasoning for the repetition and whatever his motivation,Continue Reading
